Connect to Care Knitting Group
Check out what one of Connect to Care's groups did to
Care for Thy Neighbor:
Featured are Jane, Loretta and Linda who contributed to the creation of this blanket
"The Connect to Care Knitting group was started by Linda Frank at the end of February this year. The group was formed for those who enjoy knitting and a support for managing stress. Knitting for many is a means to manage the stress during these tough economic times. While sharing coping strategies, members worked on creating a blanket that will be donated to, Care to Knit, Inc. Care to Knit, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide hand knit and crocheted items to those in need in shelters, hospitals, hospice, nursing homes, etc. It was a great group which not only provided support to each other, but in the end will also be helping someone else."

Personal Care Items Drive Summary
This spring, Care for Thy Neighbor , a UJA Federation of New York’s Connect to Care and Sid Jacobson JCC AmeriCorps Volunteer initiative, ran a Personal Care Drive April 1, 2011 through May 27, 2011. Halfway through the drive, on May 1, 2011, volunteers successfully collected hundreds of items from customers of CVS in Roslyn, Shop Rite of Plainview, Whole Foods of Jericho, and Uncle Giuseppe’s of Port Washington. Additionally, collections were held at 10 synagogues across Long Island.
These volunteer efforts resulted in a cumulative collection of over 10,000 personal care items. A volunteer day of sorting and distribution was held on June 12, 2011 at Sid Jacobson JCC. Care for Thy Neighbor was able to donate personal care items to Island Harvest, UJA Federation of New York’s Supplies for Success, and MOMMAS House.
